    Hello there,

Last month I saw quite much WU's which are granted 1000.00 cobblestones while the chrunchers only claimed 180 or more. It looks like a bug in the validating system which grants the max amount of credits for WU's with a CPU time higher then a certain amount of seconds.

Not that I've problems with it, but it doesn't seem quite fair to me.

I also saw this behaviour, especially when the WU's take a long time to complete (about 5-6 hours). I don't mind too, but I agree on the fact that it is not really fair.
On the other side, the project is almost 100%. Maybe they are giving the points as gifts for the volunteers ;)

I'm not sure exactly why they do it, but that's normal for longer workunits. If you've noticed, ABC generally grants more credits than the BOINC clients claim. It does cap the limit at 1000 though, which is probably what you're seeing.

Yup, 1000 credits is the maximum credits for any WU.
When this "feature" was added I my oldish P4s crunched those big WUs in over 30 hrs but of course with my newer boxes those WUs only need 8-9 hrs now. ;-)

I consider these 1K-WUs as an extra motivation... especially when crunching with older PCs. *grin*

EDIT: Besides these 1K-WUs are quite rare... I have to crunch a lot of 'normal' WUs before I get one of these jewels. ;-)))

Yes, sure, but ABC normally grants no more than about 4 times the claimed credit (at my 64-bit box) My friend recieved 1000.00 credit several times, while he normally get's about 2x claimed (he runs 32-bit) But as you can see, he got about 6.6x claimed, and it can be even more, I'm sure I saw 7x somewhere.

The longer the task, the greater the credits. And it goes up exponentially with a 1000 cap. This is intentional. See here for why:

Okay, granting credit is exponential... thanks :)

On a 64bit 2.1GHz it results in this:

                  Runtime ------- Credit
                  Seconds ------- /hour

                  502.54 ------ 40.331
                  1359.22 ------ 38.166
                  2524.45 ------ 36.806
                  6110.62 ------ 35.554
                  12093.82 ------ 32.378
                  13370.92 ------ 32.825
                  14920.50 ------ 32.869
                  16796.25 ------ 36.803
                  18935.42 ------ 41.324
                  19801.82 ------ 40.702
                  22191.61 ------ 51.475
                  23210.56 ------ 54.242
                  23617.54 ------ 58.970
                  23795.16 ------ 62.958
                  23991.52 ------ 56.866
                  26801.64 ------ 73.034
                  28008.75 ------ 77.336
                  28532.86 ------ 78.674
                  31169.86 ----- 114.866
                  31639.19 ------ 99.921
                  36266.61 ------ 99.265
                  38354.83 ------ 93.860

Somewhere you reach the 1000 credit boundary and after that your credit/hour decreases.
