Hmm it seems a team with some size on us has noticed our little assaults. can anyone remember what happened to AMD Users when they went head to head with us lol.
I also strongly object to saying we are the aggressors lol. I've been all out (or close to) since ABC went public and the only team in our way was Team Haiku so 1st position is rightfully ours. :P
Anyway i enjoy a challenge and rest assured even if we do manage to pass you before AA5 is over you should get it back eventually as we have so many other projects that need crunchers. plus i got some CPDN's that get sick of being suspended and RCN is missing my little farm.
Also look out im building a Q6600 system at the moment. As soon as i get the money for the last few pieces i should start making my mark again.

What hasn't been mentioned to now is:
L'Alliance Francophone is a team for the French-speaking, not just for the French.
Boinc@Australia is a team for people with some connection with oz, regardless of what it is. Liking Australian things or even just being a member of Boinc@Australia qualifies. :-) :-)
I suspect both teams have members who qualify for both teams. Sadly, I do not qualify to be a member of AF. Now if liking things French were qualification, it would be a different story........
In the meantime, I look forward to a vicious and bloody (but fair, good-natured and above-board) fight. Just think of all those poor work units that are going to have to die in this battle.... :-) :-) :-)

ABC is new project. With a fight like that, lot of Australians and French speaking people discover it. Probabely a part of them wil stay here after the fight :-)

Yes - you are right - the project gets a lot of exposure to the BOINC world.
During and after our AA's we have noticed several times that they get discussed on other project forums and people decide to drop in and crunch some also to see what all the fun was about.
Usually after we finish an AA (Aussie Assault)many of us stay on the projects - but at less time - because they become special to us.
The science accomplished by a battle of big teams is an enormous amount, and on a new project it gives them a very good start.
Our AA's are a team building and fun exercise and gets team members interested more in BOINC projects that can be done in their computers spare time instead of just wasting the cycles.
It's all good fun and no one is meant to get hurt or upset - so crunch on and we'll see where we are on the 14th February when we finish this AA.

Hmm. Actually, Australians in general don't eat kangaroo. We are very unadventurous in the culinary department. There is a kangaroo meat industry, but it is almost all for export to Europe where it is as often as not served in restaurants as "venison".

As a matter of fact it seems that the help of mike047 is not adding any profit for the project itself since he was already crunching for ABC...
Tim (the russian) at least has added cpu power from CPDN to ABC...
at l'Alliance Francophone we are adding cpu power to the project itself not picking already available power to the project and just adding to our team like Australians are doing.
So, what is better ? :
1) Boinc@australia attacking for first place and then crying not to be able to do it and then to achieve that recruiting inside already available ABC crunchers and any mercenary ?
or
2) A team like AF that is defending its 1st place by adding power to the project from other projects in its team. And even recruiting new boinc users for that ?
Option 2) is far more honorable ;-)
Your atitude is considered by a lot of AF members not to be fair/honorable
Hope we'll be able to see Boinc@australia always in our rear view mirror ;)

Dsol, mais je croyais que tout le monde comprendrait que ce n'est pas vraiment un message srieux de recrutement de qui que ce soit que jai crit. C'est juste une copie presque conforme de leur message figurant sur la page d'accueil de leur site, agrment d'une photo touchante poste sur le forum Hardware. En plus sur la plupart des forums des projets Boinc il est obligatoire d'crire en anglais.
Et mme si c'est dcevant, ce n'est pas parce que deux ou trois individus quittent exceptionnellement leur quipe pour rejoindre temporairement Boinc@Australia qu'il faut crier la trahison. Ce fight reste un petit jeu qui ne doit pas faire oublier l'essentiel: faire connatre le calcul distribu pour faire avancer la science, et mieux souder entre eux les membres de l'Alliance Francophone qui n'ont pas toujours eu l'impression d'appartenir une mme quipe.

Some factual information :
As a matter of fact it seems that the help of mike047 is not adding any profit for the project itself since he was already crunching for ABC...
Tim (the russian) at least has added cpu power from CPDN to ABC...
at l'Alliance Francophone we are adding cpu power to the project itself not picking already available power to the project and just adding to our team like Australians are doing.
So, what is better ? :
1) Boinc@australia attacking for first place and then crying not to be able to do it and then to achieve that recruiting inside already available ABC crunchers and any mercenary ?
or
2) A team like AF that is defending its 1st place by adding power to the project from other projects in its team. And even recruiting new boinc users for that ?
Option 2) is far more honorable ;-)

D�sol�, mais je croyais que tout le monde comprendrait que ce n'est pas vraiment un message s�rieux de recrutement de qui que ce soit que j�ai �crit. C'est juste une copie presque conforme de leur message figurant sur la page d'accueil de leur site, agr�ment� d'une photo touchante post�e sur le forum Hardware. En plus sur la plupart des forums des projets Boinc il est obligatoire d'�crire en anglais.
Et m�me si c'est d�cevant, ce n'est pas parce que deux ou trois individus quittent exceptionnellement leur �quipe pour rejoindre temporairement Boinc@Australia qu'il faut crier � la trahison. Ce fight reste un petit jeu qui ne doit pas faire oublier l'essentiel: faire conna�tre le calcul distribu� pour faire avancer la science, et mieux souder entre eux les membres de l'Alliance Francophone qui n'ont pas toujours eu l'impression d'appartenir � une m�me �quipe.
En tout cas bravo pour ton message tu auras réussi à faire basculer le fight AF vs Aussie en AF vs AE. Exactement ce que les Australiens rêvaient.

The Danish even have one of our Princesses and Hollywood has most of our actors.
So attracting members from anywhere in the world seems natural to us. As natural, I would have said, as L'Alliance Francophone having Australian team members. ;-)

Some people are just taking things too seriously - we do this for fun and to help the project. It's not a fight/war, it's a race/contest and I agree that ABC@home is the ultimate winner.
BOINC@AUSTRALIA probably can not get to #1 when racing with teams that have 5 times the crunching power, but it's fun to see what can be achieved and how people react.
For what it's worth, AA5 was planned in January, well before AF overtook us. It was not planned as a contest between our teams, it just turned out that way as both teams decided to support this project.
Our Russian friend Tim has helped us a lot too and he came to us of his own volition. Thanks go to Visnet in the Netherlands as well (ik denk niet dat it at vertalen moet, maar bedankt!)
If some members of AF do not speak English and Dutch, perhaps one of their team members can translate my message for them. My grasp of the French language is not that good.

It's not really a problem. [AF>GIGA_2000>BBT]Rogue 9 came in to the AA counter challenge with a particular expectation and it turned out to be different.
The parts that are different are the parts that mean the most to him (he's a 'him', right? I don't read French at all well, sorry) so it's okay.

On est pas la pour bouffer du kangourou mais pour donner tout ce qu'on peut sur un projet pendant 2 semaines.

You sound a bit like my ex-girlfriend (god I hope your a women ;-). When she spoke to me the sentences often started the same way. Or with idiot, stupide, merde and so on, even when she thought she was speaking English. I always understood her though, I was wrong et she was right. ;-)

/ For the record, I am the guy who has "China" for a country. I've lived here the past 8 years or more, and I like the place so I crunch for China. But I'm also an Australian and so I crunch for BOINC@AUSTRALIA. Besides, I am at a bit of a disadvantage in the forum of BOINC@CHINA. :-) (Although at less of a disadvantage that I would be at on the AF forum.)
But I think the membership wishes (there aren't any rules, because anybody can join or leave any team)do state that anybody who feels like joining BOINC@AUSTRALIA for any reason is free to do so. We will welcome any cruncher with open arms as long as they don't abuse people or use bad language on our forum. Oh, and we don't particularly welcome people who cheat on credits because that's bad for the goals of the team - to have a bit of fun and help science on the way.
That said, we only *actively try to recruit* people who are not currently a member of any team, (Australian or Not) and who we think for some reason have some connection with Australia. But that said, the great majority of our members (including me)chose BOINC@AUSTRALIA without being recruited, and we hope that they will stay because they like it here. We welcome any cruncher who chooses us, regardless of their native language or country, whether they have an acre of supercomputers or one Pentium III, and whether they crunch with us for one week or 5 years. We are grateful for the time we are able to walk beside anybody!
The whole idea of Aussie Assaults is to have a bit of fun and create a bit of fun for the team members who like that kind of thing. About 10% of our team members actually take part in that sort of thing. Part of the fun is a bit of friendly rivalry between teams, but it is certainly not our intention to upset people. I still think that 99% of the Alliance Francophone are having fun. Let's face it AF have put up a magnificent effort of rallying the troops and at the moment are teaching us a thing or two.
But let's not get too serious, folks. If this is not fun for you anymore, regardless of which team you are on, it is your choice to do something else and we will respect you for that and not reproach you at all. Let's face it, we are giving up time, money, sleep, grades and in many cases losing conjugal privileges for this. It had better be fun!
Me? I'm having a whale of a time! And I'm off to work on that lazy Core 2 Duo. I reckon I can squeeze another 100 credits a day out of its sorry chassis. :-)

Обе команды встрепенулись и стали ускоряться, форумы освежила волна новых топиков, появились новые участники, а старые вспомнили, что такое команда. И что самое главное - гонка полезна для проекта. На месте руководителей проекта я бы постоянно подливал в огонь масло - крутил бы так и сяк проценты рейтингов, ставил бы подножки выигрывающей команде и так далее. Так что давайте продолжим кампанию бесконечных догонялок и посмотрим, на какой уровень нас заведет этот процесс.

The whole idea of Aussie Assaults is to have a bit of fun and create a bit of fun for the team members who like that kind of thing. About 10% of our team members actually take part in that sort of thing. Part of the fun is a bit of friendly rivalry between teams, but it is certainly not our intention to upset people. I still think that 99% of the Alliance Francophone are having fun. Let's face it AF have put up a magnificent effort of rallying the troops and at the moment are teaching us a thing or two.
But let's not get too serious, folks. If this is not fun for you anymore, regardless of which team you are on, it is your choice to do something else and we will respect you for that and not reproach you at all. Let's face it, we are giving up time, money, sleep, grades and in many cases losing conjugal privileges for this. It had better be fun!

They have a nasty habit of breeding in such numbers that they starve themselves so we just help them with population control :D they also make a real mess of the front of any car unlucky enough to be driving down the road they decided to hop across.
Anyway im not shure what everyone else is planning but i spent a fair bit of last night sending PM's to team members not currently crunching ABC and got a few more to join in the fun and games.
ABC is the winner in any case its getting crunching power most wouldn't have believed possible. But sadly on the 14th my 100% resource share on 3 computers will drop back to just 25% of my C2D and 50% of my celerons. Like most i crunch a few projects and just came for the fun and games. I must say this has been the most fun AA yet as i couldnt really take part in AA3 due to having just 1 part time windows cruncher compared to my 3 (soon to be 4) Linux machines.
Finally thanks to those from other teams who joined in the fun and games. I don't think either team would still be scrambling for more crunchers to continue the assault/defense if the gap was opening wildly instead of staying fairly steady like it is.
So lets keep the fun and games rolling.

1) I've eaten kangaroo, crocodile, emu, frogs legs and snails. In order, I prefer emu, kangaroo, snails, crocodile and frogs legs. Actually, crocodile sucks. Oh, I've also eaten Polish food and if she didn't tell me what was in it, it was okay. :o
2) Are you sure? We get summer and christmas/new year all at the same time. Santa always uses a helicopter for long trips and fire trucks for short trips.
3) Ah, you have me there, but I'm trying to learn French. German is common here, as is Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese and so many others.
So given that we are at such a huge disadvantage, AF should just drop their output to 45,000 a day for two day. Pas qui?!

Aren't there speciality butchers in Canada that could supply Kangaroo meat? Australia exports thousands of tonnes of the stuff to Europe, so I would have thought it was available in Canada. I am not sure but it may be available in the USoA too.
I wonder how I would go about exporting one frozen kangaroo steak to Canada????!!!!

Je crois le plus grand problème avec des emplacements d'enchaînement de traduction de langue, est qu'ils ne traduisent pas français-anglais ou anglais-français. Ils traduisent le français à l'Américain.
Les emplacements d'enchaînement de traduction assument le Français mal écrit parce que les emplacements d'enchaînement ne comptent pas traduire chaque mot français à son signification anglaise exacte.
Je ferai un essai ici et la boisson non alcoolique de parole n'est pas identique que la soude et nous verrons. Malheureusement pour moi, les leçons françaises que j'ai, ai été écrites en Amérique et pas en France. Pauvres je.

I'm not a big fan of Merlot. It used be seen as a filler for other red wines. Now it seems to have developed a following of its own. I prefer a Cabernet Sauvignon. Jacob's Creek make a very nice one, that is inexpensive, exported and liked by many overseas wine taster.

First, this [A]AA5 ([Anti] Aussie Assault 5) is not a war : it's a contest as it has already been said.
As a member of the AF, I do not approve the recruitment methods of B@A. This is my opinion. Nevertheless, these are Aussie methods during an Aussie Assault. So, even if I don't approve, I struggle. We struggle, but using our methods. Different people, different way (what can you expect of people walking their head down on the other side of the planet ?) ;)
Comments like "we can't win because they have much more members", "their team is too big for us" and so on are ridiculous : you started the fight, we replied. You knew who we are. And pretending "even if we remain second, AA5 will be a success because we made a gap to the 3rd place" is poor minded (I think). Your goal is the 1st place : our goal is to keep it. The one team at the 1st place on feb 14th wins AA5. The other looses. Period.
After such a constest, we should altogether drink beers in a bar commenting this titan fight. We won't because of the distance. That's a shame.

En premier lieu, cet anti Aussie Assault 5 n'est pas une guerre : c'est un defi comme cela a deja ete dit.
En tant que membre de l'AF, je desapprouve les methodes de recrutement de B@A. C'est mon opinion. Toutefois, ce sont les methodes australiennes lors d'un Assaut Australien. Donc meme si je n'approuve pas, je lutte. Nous luttons, mais avec nos methodes. Des gens differents, des chemins differents (que peut-on esperer de gens qui marchent sur la tete de l'autre cote de la planete ?) ;)
Des commentaires du style "on ne peut pas gagner parce qu'ils ont bien plus de membres que nous", "leur equipe est trop grosse pour nous" et ainsi de suite sont ridicules : vous avez commence le defi, nous avons repondu. Vous saviez qui nous sommes. et pretendre que "mme si nous restons 2eme, l'AA5 sera un succes parce que nous avons creuse l'ecart avec la 3eme place" est d'une etroitesse d'esprit affligeante (mon opinion). Votre objectif est la 1ere place : notre objectif est de la conserver. L'equipe qui sera 1ere le 14 fevrier gagne l'AA5. L'autre perd. Point final.

I have not seen any recruiting here that goes against our recruitment guidelines, but if you know our guidelines and have seen one of our members transgress, please provide me with the necessary evidence and I will contact the member who did.
If you are talking about the fact that some people CHOSE to join us in the fun, they did so of their own free will, for their own reasons. I do not usually comment on why individual members joined us (and I usually don't know) but our Russian friend (who some of you seem to be so upset about) is hoping to move to Australia at some point in the future, which is one of the reasons he joined us.
As for us starting the fight, as I stated before, AA5 was planned well ahead of 1 February and was not designed as a contest between our teams, it just turned out that way after you overtook us on 18 or 19 January.
No, we probably will not gain 1st place a the current rate of progress, but I will still view AA5 as a success. Getting to 1st place is not the only objective of Aussie Assaults.

/ Hmm. Unless you have been reading the internal threads, I doubt you can know exactly what the goals of an AA are. In fact, we don't even know because everyone in the team has a slightly different idea in mind. But perhaps I can give you an insight into how we choose the targets for AAs (up to now, at least.)
As Webmaster Yoda said, planning for AA5 started in December and the choosing was well under way in the 2nd week of January. Everybody has a different idea of which project we should boost in an AA5, so we vote. Things that get taken into consideration by different people include quality of the science on the project, the stability of the servers, whether the project admins are active, whether cheating is under control in the project, whether we can improve our position (yes - a shot at #1 captures a lot of people's imagination, but if that was the only condsideration we would probably not have gone for ABC this time, and last time we took on SETI where we didn't even have a shot at #40!), availability of clients for platforms other than windows, fairness of credit, etc etc etc. One thing that comes way, way down the list is who is ahead of us in the project. (Although you guys have been such good sports, we are AT THIS VERY MOMENT looking for other projects where we might tweak your tails in mini assaults.) :-)
As to whether an AA is successful, there are many figures of merit. Obviously getting to #1 would be nice, but it is not even the most important consideration. During the runup to AA5 and through the first week, a bunch of people have joined B@A. That's good. A bunch of B@A members who had stopped crunching have started again. That's better. Members have worked out how to squeeze another 50 credits/day out of their PC's sorry chassis and B@A's total output has gone up more than 10% in the past month. That's totally marvellous. Many of us have gone without sleep, food and other creature comforts for a week. That sucks, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad. Oh. and we are having a lot of fun and the forums are active. That's probably the main thing.
Looks like AA5 has had a positive effect on the AF team's output as well. Since in the end, although we may compete from time to time, we all crunch side by side towards the project goals, that's good too.
But if you want to define success and failure in your own terms, you are welcome to your own opinion, of course.

But this result is born in this AA5. Without this competition, i don't think that i had crunched onto the ABC project. But some members of the AF team ( in fact Black Hole Sun from the Road Runner team ) contamined me with their motivation to win this challenge.
At this moment, we are leading, but i stay very impressed by the calcul power of the autralian team.

The average gap in pace between AF and B@A is about 4500 credits per hour (based on the last 12 hours). That's an extrapolated RAC gap of 108 000 credits.

Can you guys make it to more than 1.25M ahead by then? (I was going to say 1M, but I think that's barely a challenge.)
To make it more interesting, I have built a computer especially for AA5. (picture below) It's name is Travesty and it is a slightly overclocked Athlon 64 3500+ machine running Ubuntu Linux.
If AF are more than 1.25M ahead of B@A at 0:00 on 15th Feb, then instead of putting it all back in the spare parts store where it belongs, I will create a new account for it, and it will crunch for AF on the project of your choice for 1 week.
Can you guys save this poor little computer for another week? I know it will be hard, but it will be worth it! But I am hard-hearted, and I will be doing my utmost to stop you!

I doubt Alianware would be interested, because it is cheap and efficient and there aren't enough cool LEDs.

It's been a real pleasure to participate to such an emulating and thrilling experience !
I was, like many others, a single cruncher, occasionally registered as an AF member. Now, I'm a proud member of the AF team, ready for some other fights, and happy to have "met" some other friends from all over the globe.
As I wrote earlier, thanks to the B@A members who offered us the unique occasion to feel like a real team, and to discover we could be so powerfull !
The end of this AA5 has come, the results are not ambiguous, and what we should remind of this AA5 later is that the ABC project got the opportunity to gain more than 5.5 Mio credits in only 2 weeks !
It's really a pity we could not go have a beer together at the local pub, and I hope we'll have the chance to participate together to another fight (let's attack SETI@USA together !!).

J'tais, comme beaucoup d'autres, un simple cruncher, accessoirement enregistr comme membre de l'AF. Maintenant, je suis un fier membre de l'AF, prt pour d'autres batailles, et heureux d'avoir "rencontr" d'autres amis un peu partie sur le globe.
Comme je l'ai crit prcdemment, merci aux membres de B@A qui nous ont offert l'occasion unique de nous faire nous sentir comme une vraie quipe, et de dcouvrir que nous pouvions tre si puissant !
La fin de cet AA5 est arrive, les rsultats ne sont pas ambigus, et nous devrions surtout nous souvenir de cet AA5 comme l'opportunit pour le projet ABC de gagner plus de 5.5 Mio de crdits en seulement 2 semaines !
C'est rellement dommage que nous ne puissions sortir boire une bire ensemble au bar du coin, et j'espre vraiment que nous aurons la chance de participer ensemble une autre bataille (attaquons SETI@USA ensemble !!).

I hope a lot of the other teams involved in BOINCing have learnt from this last couple of weeks exactly what enjoyment you can get from this hobby - it's not just the points/credits; it's the adrenaline rush of the race and the people you get to interact with from other cultures/countries.
I'm starting to wind down from AA5 but 50% of my output will still go to ABC for the next few days. But I will still crunch here for perhaps a week of each month.
Until AA6 begins - I wonder where that will be?

/ AA5 is now over for me, and I am putting resources back on to some sadly neglected other projects. I will keep going on ABC, but at a much lower level.
I want to thank everyone in AF for the manner in which the "battle" has been conducted. The way in which you managed to muster so much support within your team and increase your output so significantly was quite extraordinary and very impressive to watch. Because of it, we have exceeded our wildest expectations for AA5. Our most optimistic predictions had us totalling 1.1 million credits with about 60 team members involved. We actually managed nearly double both figures, and this would not have happened without the magnificent response of AF!!
The fact that both teams managed to get around 10% of their members on ABC is impressive.
I particularly want to thank ThierryH for starting this thread which fired us all up so much, and also Ivan leFou for the great work on the stats pages that made such great reading (even if they did contain the odd "dig" at us! :-)
As Hendrik has said, between us we did great things for ABC@Home.
Thanks also to those crunchers that joined us, either permanently or temporarily, during AA5. The publicity the AA5/AF rivalry attracted can only be good for BOINC.
Congratulations to both teams, and thanks again for a fun two weeks.
Oh, and thanks, but I'll pass on the medal you made for us! :-)

Our team has AA's every second month to have fun and do a lot of science but also to keep the team together. This is one of best AA's yet.

But we sure had a good run, didn't we! I had fun, and I get the feeling a lot of AF guys and gals did too.
Look out for us. We have AAs every 2 months, and you never know when we might pick a project where you are not far ahead of us.....

That was the best experience since the BOINC projects started! What a fantastic effort from both L'Alliance Francophone and BOINC@Australia to get 5 million credits in just two weeks of work, hard work ;-)
I really do hope to see L'Alliance Francophone create your own version of the AA. It really does bring the team together and is great for team camaraderie.
I had to finish off work units from other projects when the AA started. So my computers did not produce sufficient output until three days in to the AA. I'm going to finish today at 13:00 UTC and then switch my computers back to WCG, BBC Climate, uFluids and a little ABC as well.

/ I had hoped L'Alliance Francophone or AMD Users would have joined us in the Assault on Einstein. We could have made badges too. ;-)
As it is, we had a small number of BIG crunchers from around the globe join us. All but Dr. Bruce Allen, Einstein Chief Scientist have left us now 8-(. Bruce is in the middle of his move from the USA to Germany. So it will be a while before we get to catch up with him again. In the mean time he is still crunching for BOINC@AUSTRALIA. The bad news for us is someone is using his big cluster of computers. It only output about 6,000 on 7/4/2007, which is good news for all the other teams I suppose. ;-) Still we managed crunch 144,927.63 credits worth of Einstein science that day too. :-P
We also picked up a "heap" of Aussie crunchers too, some big ones too.
