Linux 64bit in Virtual Machine Under Windows
(Message 1316)
Posted 2300 days ago by .. Just a few comments:
My Athlon 64 is unfortunately a Clawhammer which does not meet above specifications (rev. D was codenamed Venice and came later). There is a small test programm available on the VMware site to test this or you could use CPU-Z or similar programs. Regards Alex |

Don't forget that he is on an UMTS connection. UMTS providers are using special compression mechanisms that might alter the data exchanged between client and server. After all, that is why the option 'Skip image file verification?' (which apparently didn't help much here) was introduced to BOINC, for example. Another issue with UMTS are quite high ping times. No Work ?
(Message 561)

This is not a server side problem, your client is not requesting new work. This usually happens only if you are attached to more then one project and BOINC thinks that you 'do not need' any workunits because you have others still to crunch and/or you have already crunched 'too long' for ABC according to the resource share provided and therefore other projects come first. The mysteries of the BOINC scheduler and work fetch policy are much easier to understand if you know the so-called long term and short term debts for each project. BoincView (a third-party program) might be a big help here, because you can set it to show these debts on the 'projects' tab. To put it simple: a project with a higher (= more positive or less negative) debt will come first. You should be able to force download of new ABC workunits if you set all other projects in the BOINC manager to 'stopped'. However, be sure not to miss deadlines for the stopped projects. Regards Alex EDIT: Well, anyway, I keep this post, maybe it's useful to someone. |

At the commandline "ipconfig /flushdns" might help. However, I tend to agree with Hendrik that this is a timing issue, because I had similar issues when using UMTS connections for BOINC. Some more options: - if you can, attach with a wired network connection instead. Getting workunits and uploading results might work once you are attached. - change location to get better connection - try to connect with GPRS instead (most UMTS cards should have this fallback), of course it's much slower, but worth a try - try to install a local proxy between BOINC and UMTS connection, this improved the connection for me (however, this has been some time ago with other BOINC manager and server versions than now) Wireless connection even depend on factors like weather and amount of users connecting to the same cell at the same time. I find that they are very unpredictable. Maybe you should take Hendriks invitation instead. Regards Alex |

Posted 2316 days ago by .. My first 'long' workunit (ID = 1688) took 3 hrs. 50 sec. on a 2 GHz Athlon64. Wow, we both got 65.99 credits granted for this one, not bad at all. Alex |

Login to 'your account' at ABC & ABC beta
(Message 469)
Posted 2316 days ago by .. For the records: I just noticed when I log into my account at the ABC@home (main project) website, then I am automatically logged into my account at the ABC@home beta site, too. This is not really a bug or even an issue, but I thought I mention it anyway. I guess it's a side effect of the import of the Betatester's data into the main project and, of course, the fact that both sites are on the same server. So it might only apply to the former betatesters not to those who joined the main project later. Regards Alex |
