How to Save Money On Your Kids Clothing

August 31, 2017 by Lauren Palmer

I don’t know about the rest of you mothers out there but I honestly feel like I spend the majority of my life and my money, replacing my ever-growing kid’ clothing. I begrudge spending a great deal of money on the clothes for my children because they outgrow them in a heartbeat and in truth, I simply cannot keep up. Last year my husband lost his job and we were all forced to tighten our belts somewhat, naturally kids have to have clothes so in this regard I had to get a little bit creative in terms of how I could save money and ensure that they had clothes to wear, clothes that fit, and clothes that still looked good, here is what I came up with.

Shopping Online

As someone who is a little bit of a technophobe I had never considered looking for my kids’ garments on the internet. Unfortunately for me, I had never realized that kids online clothing could be so cheap and in an instant I was buying up bulk amounts of clothes for my 3 young ones. There are so many deals online, cash back offers and coupons which save you money that I simply couldn’t resist. If you have never shopped online for your kids’ clothes then I urge you to star taking a look, the prices will blow you away.

Hand Me Down

When we were quite flush, I would always take old clothes to the local charity shop or even donate them to charity or school, this changed however once money got tight. As a child who was the youngest of 4, my entire childhood wardrobe was basically whatever my elder siblings had worn the year before, this was something which I didn’t want my kids to go through and so I never passed clothes down through my children. Once money got short however I decided that we should not be so precious and instead make the most of the clothes that we had in the house. As it happens, my youngest didn’t care that he was wearing his brother’s old coat and actually enjoyed the fact that he was recycling clothing.

Sewing Kit

We live in quite a disposable culture these days when it comes to food, TV and clothing and in truth, I used to throw away a lot of clothes once me little monsters and made holes in them or ripped them. This had to change when finances went south and so I got out my old sewing machine and began to fix and fix up some of my kids’ clothes. Originally the idea was just to repair clothing but I soon got into my groove and decided that I would make and re-up some of my kids’ clothes, something which they all loved.

There are always ways to save money on the essentials and if you want to save some cash on your kids clothing, these three tips should help you out.
