Easy Ways to Make Your Yard More Nature-Friendly

April 3, 2018 by Lauren Palmer

Most of us want somewhere serene to sit and enjoy time with our friends and family. But, people also really want to help nature by planting in a wildlife-friendly way. Gone are the days when we were happy just planting a lawn and laying concrete paths and installing a sprinkler system. Modern homeowners are more aware than ever of the need to look after their environment. Therefore, they are always looking for easy ways to enhance their gardens, but also take care of nature at the same time. Fortunately, there are plenty of easy ways you can do exactly that.

Plant a tree or two

Perhaps the fastest way to make your garden look nicer and be more nature-friendly is to plant a tree. They look stunning, help to cleanse and enhance the air and provide homes to a wide variety of insects, birds, and mammals. So, planting one is definitely a step in the right direction.

However, it is important to buy the right variety for your garden. After all, a dead tree is no good to anyone. Fortunately, you can easily find the perfect trees for your state, by clicking this link. Once you reach the website, all you need to do is to click on your state to be presented with the information you need. The article you will be taken to will tell you which varieties do best as well as tell you about the average climate in the part of the state that you live in.

Grow your own food

Setting aside an area of your yard to grow your own food is an excellent way to protect the environment. Every time you pick something and eat it you are doing a very good thing. No fuel needs to be used to deliver the product to the store and them your home. Plus, possibly most importantly of all, there is no packaging used. The peelings and anything you do not use can be composted and go back to the land.

There are lots of ways to grow your own food. A vegetable plot and fruit trees are the obvious approaches. But, you can also grow vegetables in hanging baskets and patio pots. Planting a few onions and garlic along the back of your flowerbed is a great way to deter bugs as well as give you fresh food to eat. If you are interested in doing this, use this website for inspiration.

Deliberately create homes for little animals

Incorporating homes for insects, birds and small mammals into your garden is particularly helpful for the environment. We already mentioned planting a tree, but there are other approaches that work just as well. For example, building a bug hotel or two or leaving a corner of your garden go wild can both make a huge difference. Little things like leaving a gap in your fence can allow mammals the freedom to roam and find the food that they need.
