How to Find The Perfect Handyman

August 31, 2017 by Lauren Palmer

There are some phone numbers which you simply must have in your contacts book as a homeowner and the handyman is most definitely one of them. There are a thousand minute circumstances which may call forth the abilities of the handyman and in the main, you can bet your bottom dollar that they occur at the worst times. Handymen bring experience and knowledge as well as a wealth of tools and appliance repair parts which you will need should something go wrong.

If you do not have a handyman on speed dial when the time comes, you will need to find one online or in the phone book at the worst possible time and you could end up calling upon the services of a cowboy or someone who charges an obscene amount. In order to ensure you can avoid this, make sure you know your handyman first, and here is how to get the perfect handyman for your hour of need.

Neighbors

Most handymen stay local and their name is passed from neighbor to neighbor after successfully completing a job. For this reason you should make sure that you have a chat with your neighbors and find out who they use and why. Handymen rely on word of mouth and you should use it too in order to get the best handyman for you.

Internet

The internet is used by businesses big and small and it is more than likely that your local handyman has some form of internet profile, even if it is just a Facebook page. Through the use of the internet you can see what kind of stuff they do, any guarantees which they offer as well as being able to see reviews which other people have left about them in the past. Once you have spoken to your neighbors and found out which handymen they like to use, you can then search for them online to find out a little bit more about them before finally making your decision.

Small Job

Once you have the name and number of a handyman who works in your vicinity, it is worth arranging something with them so that you can meet them, see their work and understand what kind of prices they charge. Now, you cannot very well call them to meet for a coffee and a chat so instead why not call them in for a small job in the home, even if it is one which you could complete yourself. This will allow you to see the speed with which they respond, their level of communication, their workmanship and you can use the opportunity to discuss what their capabilities are should you need them in an emergency.

The hope is of course that you are never in an emergency situation which would require a handyman but for when those moments do occur, having someone in your contacts who you can call upon, could prove to be a lifesaver.
