How to work with textiles in your home: 5 Tips and tricks

  1. Use soft fabrics to add an instant sense of warmth to your home

If you want to avoid living in a home which seems sterile and cold, it’s well worth hand selecting a few decorative items, in rich, warm fabrics in order to ensure that home comes across as a cozy, warm inviting space to spend time in.

As examples, you may want to place a soft, warm sheepskin rug in your home office, so that your home office appears less like a sterile corporate office and more like an inviting home office.

  1. Use multiple throw cushions to decorate your bed

After a long day at work, you’ll love being able to come home and jump onto a perfectly made bed which is decorated with a myriad of assorted throw cushions. If you like this idea, try to choose cushions in various sizes, to add a bit of variance to your cushion arrangement.

When it comes time to purchase your cushions try to choose cushions in various fabrics. As an example, you may want to consider purchasing a suede cushion, a leather cushion, and a velvet cushion.

  1. Consider incorporating velvet into your home

While many design trends come and go over the years, if you’re looking to incorporate a fun design trend into your home which won’t date, it’s well worth incorporating velvet into one of your home’s design elements. As an example, you may want to consider having your favorite sofa reupholstered with a luxurious velvet fabric, in your favorite color. Or you may want to consider replacing your bedroom’s curtains with soft velvet drapes.

One thing’s for sure if you find a way to successfully incorporate velvet into your home, you’ll instantly feel like royalty. Better yet, if you ever move to a new property, your velvet items are guaranteed to suit any style of home, which you move to. As velvet pieces such as furniture look just at home in a grand old mansion as they do in a cottage or a chic, inner-city apartment.

  1. Consider changing up your feature textiles, for each season

As an example, in the cooler winter months, you may want to display velvet, suede and leather fabrics. While in the summer months you may prefer incorporating lighter, summer-appropriate fabrics into your home. Examples of light-weight textures which work well in summer when it comes to interior decorating include silk, cotton, and linen.

If you need a little inspiration to dress your home up for summer, it’s well worth purchasing linen cushions in white, blue and yellow shades and to invest in clean, white linen sheets and duvets for your master bedroom. As well as any of your guest bedrooms.

  1. If in doubt invest in high-quality leather items

If in doubt, you can never go wrong investing in high-quality leather items, which are sure to last for decades to come.

So what are you waiting for? It’s always a great time to experiment with different fabrics and textiles!
