Moving Guide: Atlanta, GA

November 27, 2018 by Lauren Palmer

Atlanta is a shining gem of the South. States like Georgia are hardly known for their big cities and immense populations – most of that state is rural and barren. However, the city of Atlanta is one of the most populous and eventful cities in the Southern United States. Although its amenities, and the “big-city” lifestyle it boasts, might be daunting for some, Atlanta isn’t at all a bad place to live, especially if one considers the following tips and tricks that make moving to and living in Atlanta easier and less stressful.

Plenty to Do

There has never been a better time to move to Atlanta, Georgia. The city has seen a ton of growth recently, with the openings of various restaurants. Atlanta is home to dozens of nature trails, parks, and well-maintained nature preserves. Atlanta is ideal for outdoorsmen and explorers, possessing a higher percentage of tree coverage than the national average. With the exception of a few cold winters and snowy days, the weather is generally perfect for outdoor and recreational activities. Hiking, fishing, dog-walking, sports, and outdoor barbecues are among some of Atlanteans’ favorite pass-times. If you enjoy fresh air and basking in either the sunshine or natural shade from foliage, Atlanta is the place for you.

Travel

In addition to an abundance of reliable, public transportation, Atlanta boasts one of the world’s busiest and most coveted airports. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is responsible for giving Atlanta its well-known nickname, The ATL, which is the airport’s code. Hartsfield-Jackson serves over 100 million passengers and travelers every year. It was named “The World’s Best Airport” back in 1998 and has only proven more and more worthy of such a claim ever since. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the best airport, hands down, for traveling in and out of the Southern United States.

Neighborhood Guide

Of course, every larger city will have its “bad neighborhoods,” however, most of Atlanta is comprised of safe, walkable neighborhoods, perfect for raising or starting a family in. Settling in the right location largely depends on a potential resident’s interests and their particular lifestyle. Places like Edgewood and Cabbage Town are ideal for hipster-type lifestyles, including a plethora of cafes and coffee shops, while the Virginia Highlands area is relatively quiet and peaceful, making it ideal for bookish housewives and hobbyists.

Atlanta is among the best places in the Southern United States to live. The city offers multitudes of activities and events for all walks of life, not to mention the world’s best operational airport. Moving to Atlanta is guaranteed to be a decision you will never regret. And luckily, if you’re looking for some help making your way there permanently, we have a few friends at Suddath that will make the process a dream.
