Returnable packaging the best idea for when moving home

January 28, 2019 by Lauren Palmer

Long gone have the days of the cardboard box, as we move into using returnable packaging by PPS for example. These provide a fantastic service and keep the waste down with the endless amount of cardboard boxes been simply thrown away in the past. Cardboard boxes have always been the go to, for placing your household items in. This is due to them being fairly durable, however plastic boxes have many more positives over them. They are easily accessible and can be acquired for short term use and returned without waste. The perks of this include:

  • Delivery and collection of the boxes to you
  • Cheaper option overall than cardboard boxes
  • Packaging time both ends reduced, due to not needing to construct the boxes
  • More environmentally friendly
  • Less potential damage to items

However it is not all positives with plastic boxes, and many people would still choose to go down the cardboard box route. This is due to:

  • Plastic boxes are less space efficient than cardboard boxes
  • They slide easily in the removal van, so can be prone to damage
  • Can be more difficult to stack

Many people choose to go down the route of using a removal company, so will not have the option of picking, as many will provide the packaging materials. However if you are self-moving then it is important to take these different factors into account before making your decision.

There are of course also other alternatives to each of these, which can be a very cheap option. These include:

  • Drawers

Many of our clothes for example are already in draws, so why complicate matters? Simply keeping these in the draws could actually help to save space, and will also result in less work when at its destination, with everything still in place.

  • Rubbish Sacks

Another very popular option is putting items in rubbish sacks. This is not an option for things that could not be damaged, but is a great option for clothes, towels and bedding. This is good for keeping costs down, and they are easily transportable.

  • Bags

Another clever way to transport some of your possessions is in your bags. This includes, suitcases, holdalls and rucksacks for example. These should be utilized rather than being left empty.

Summary

These are many of the different options available to you in not only being more eco-friendly on your move, but can also help to save costs. Therefore it is important to summarise which is the best option for you when you are moving home.
