Three Reasons to Remodel Your Kitchen

December 11, 2018 by Lauren Palmer

Have you been thinking about remodeling your kitchen? Many of us want to, but we keep putting it off. We tell ourselves it’s too expensive, it’s too time consuming, you don’t know what you want yet, etc. If this sounds like you, perhaps you’re just looking for a solid reason to finally get it done. With that in mind, here are three reasons that you should remodel your kitchen. If any of them apply to you, consider starting the process for a remodel as soon as you’re able.

You’ll Enjoy Your Kitchen More

Let’s start with the most obvious reason – you’ll enjoy your kitchen more. You spend a lot of time in your kitchen and you deserve to enjoy your time there. If you’re finding that you don’t have enough counter space, or the appliances are all breaking down, or you’re embarrassed to have company over, perhaps it’s time for a remodel. Once you finally decide to dive in, you’ll be left with a kitchen that you love to spend time in and show off.

Improved Home Value

The next reason to consider remodeling your kitchen is because it can improve your home value. One of the goals for any homeowner is to have the home worth as much as possible. Even if you don’t plan on selling your home any time soon, the day will eventually come, and when it does, you’ll be happier if you took the time over the years to boost the value.

It’s hard to boost home value in a short period of time. That’s why you should focus on spreading out home improvement projects over time, to make it easier not only on your day to day life, but on your budget.

Kitchens are one of the best areas to focus on when trying to improve home values. This is because they are a primary selling point when showing the home to new buyers, and because they are one of the easiest places to upgrade. If you want to improve your home value, remodeling the kitchen is an excellent way to go.

Good for the Environment

Finally, the third reason you can consider is that kitchen remodels can be good for the environment. This is because in many kitchens, the equipment is out of date. Newer models for things like refrigerators and dish washers are now much better at conserving energy and using less water. Considering how often you run your dishwasher and use your refrigerator, upgrading to energy efficient appliances during your remodel could be a great way to help out the environment.

If you want to make your kitchen remodel even more eco-friendly, there is also another option. One of the main things that people typically want to change about their kitchen is the cabinets. Cabinet refacing is one of the best ways to make a kitchen look better, but it’s also better for the environment than an entire kitchen remodel. According to one San Diego cabinet refacing company, “Kitchen cabinets refacing is an eco-friendly alternative to a complete kitchen remodel”

How to Get Started with Your Kitchen Remodel

Now that you have a good reason (or three) for remodeling your kitchen, it’s time to get started. To begin, you’ll want to start planning out the remodel. Take some time to search the Internet and come up with ideas for what you want to do. What looks good? How do you want to change things? What’s your ideal kitchen look like? Pinterest is a great place to get ideas, so start you’re search there if you don’t know where to begin.

After you have some ideas, decide what you’re going to do. For this, you’ll need to factor in the total costs and what you can afford. Call around to some local kitchen remodeling companies and get some estimates. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to do everything you want, but in some cases you may need to scale back or do it over time.

To save some money, you may be able to do some of the work yourself. Depending on how handy you are, and how much time you have, you may be able to do things like install a new appliance and replace the floors. Before you go out and spend a ton of money, see if you can do it yourself.

Finally, put your action into place. Find a reputable kitchen remodeling company in your area that has reasonable rates. Schedule a time for them to come to your home and go over with them what you’re after.

It will take some time, and intrude on your home life for a few days, but the results are worth it. Hopefully this article was able to give you the push you need to finally start your kitchen remodel, and before long you’ll have the kitchen of your dreams.
