A Partnership between the Great Courses and Netflix – What We’ve All Been Waiting for

More and more people understand how important it is to not just gather knowledge, but to keep this knowledge up to date. In the past, someone would finish high school and perhaps go to college, after which their learning journey would be completed. However, for Thomas Rollins teaching is something that has to continue all the time. This is why he was pivotal in the development of the Great Courses, a series of educational materials delivered through video and audio, through DVDs. Uniquely, they are not (yet) offered through downloads.

The Benefit of Not Downloading

For some people, the idea that anything electronic could exist yet not be in download format is bizarre. We live in a world where everything is online, after all. However, one of the key things that sets the Great Courses apart is that they often come with workbooks, and they also have a wealth of training materials, sent via email in a pdf file.

The Great Courses are expensive. However, they often launch massive sales. For instance, one Black Friday, they offered a 90% discount, free shipping, and $20 discount of the order. This was an opportunity for people to stock up on courses and really get stuck in their lifelong education. Interestingly, one of the company’s greatest sellers that Black Friday was their mathematics course. This comes with an easy to manage guidebook with exercises as well.

The Link with Netflix

The Great Courses has always been progressive, which is why they have entered into an experimental partnership with Netflix. What this means is that three courses were available through Netflix streaming and, if successful, more will be added. The Great Courses is extremely excited about the partnership, but Netflix is slightly more apprehensive, as it is the first time they have delivered truly educational materials. However, their members have already come forward to say they like the courses and their delivery methods.

Saving Money on the Great Courses

The Great Courses offer fantastic value for money, even if you buy them at full price. However, by waiting for a sale, or by taking the courses available on Netflix, you can save quite a lot of money. Another way to save is to purchase sets of courses. For instance, you can pick courses such as physics, engineering, and Greek and Roman technology. These are all inter-linked, meaning you will learn more overall. And since you purchase more than one course at a time, you will get a discount on the total.

If you are not sure about what you want to study, just that you want to study something, you will also be happy to know that the Great Courses have an extensive directory of reviews available with all their courses. This means that you can hear from other students how they have experienced the materials and whether they felt the courses were worth it. Rollins has always been committed to transparency and honesty and welcomes any new reviews, regardless of whether they are positive or negative.
