What Questions To Ask During Caregiver Interview?

February 15, 2018 by Lauren Palmer

People who provide home care services are known as caregivers. They are healthcare professionals who can give the ultimate company to elderly people who are ill or live alone. Caregivers provide in-house services, work in clinics, healthcare centers, and also at old age homes. Any kind of formal education is not required to join this profession but they get necessary training by experienced professionals once they join the job. While choosing caregivers for professional work, it is very important to take a thorough interview of the concerned individual so that all flaws in the particular person can be compensated through a proper training. As stated by caringpeopleinc.com, there are a certain set of caregiver interview questions which must be asked to an applicant in order to test his or her skills and make a clear concept of their experience.

It is recommended to find out references to the particular individual from their prior workplaces. Another important aspect which is to be looked into is whether they have an authorized license for the job. These are some of the basic queries we should enquire about while appointing any professional to the particular profession.

Here are some interview questions that would help a company or client hire quality professionals.

Some of the direct questions which could be asked to an interviewer are:

  •    How do their skills qualify them for their job?
  •    How are the professionals supposed to deal with patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease?
  •    If a client with dementia accused the caregiver of having done something wrong, which he or she actually did not do, how would they react?

These are some of the questions based on situations that would give an idea as to how delicately a caregiver can handle such situations.

An interviewer can ask behavioural questions to the applicant in their interview. This helps to provide information regarding their work potential in the past. Some of the questions asked in this category are:

  •    How did he or she handle a patient who tried to test his or her patience? How did they behave?
  •    They might be asked to recall any incidence when they had provided emotional support to a patient who was mentally shattered. What effect did that have on them?
  •    Do the caregivers become personally attached to their patients while handling them?

Behavioural questions help to get a clear concept of the personality and personal conduct of the caregiver.

Hypothetical questions asked to caregivers, on the other hand, may give an idea about their possible future performance. For example, they can be asked like what they would do if a patient is not willing to follow as they are asked for by the caregiver. What would they do if the patient starts shouting at them? These questions would give a clear knowledge as to whether the particular person can work flawlessly when appointed to the job.

Apart from these, there are certain role-specific questions which could be asked to the applicants like their conveniences and inconveniences regarding work and to their past jobs.
