Dress With A Difference

March 19, 2018 by Lauren Palmer

With summer around the corner and it heading into wedding season soon, chances are you will be needing an amazing summer dress that is wedding ready to dazzle and shine at any event you have going on this summer. Little black dresses are typically the go to for most events, but black isn’t always summer friendly or won’t let you stand out at certain events where you really want to shine like at garden parties, house parties and more. Check out these great suggestions for different fashion tips to try this summer to help you pop.

Dashiki Dresses

You may not have heard of Dashiki dresses, but these are a newer option for women of all backgrounds to stand out amongst the crowd at social events and gatherings. But what exactly is a Dashiki dress? Simply put, a Dashiki dress is a dress that is styled after those dresses that are worn typically throughout Africa. Think bold patterns, bright colours, all mixed together on a dress that really shows off your style and personality. Dresses can be tight mini dresses to highlight your legs or they can likewise be huge and puffy, or a combination of a pantsuit and dress. They also come in a huge variety of patterns and colours, so your choice is almost literally endless.

Statement Hair Piece

We all remember the fascinator craze a couple years ago. Did it ever really die? We don’t think so! Statement hair pieces are a great way to stand out at any party and fascinators are a great way to do this. Less cumbersome than a hat while being colourful and bright as well, fascinators are great for long or short hair and can come either as a headband or a hair pin type application. Pin types are easier to wear any which way including on the side of the head or in a ponytail or bun, but headbands offer an opportunity to have heavier, more elaborate decoration, so the choice is yours depending on what you’re looking for. You can even have a go at making your own!

Forget Flip Flops

Flip flops are so last year. Well, when it comes to wearing them to parties. Footwear can make or break an outfit, so be sure to pick the right footwear for the event. Heeled sandals work with most dresses but can wreak havoc on your feet after long hours of standing or dancing, so going with lower heels or flats can really help and they can be just as fantastic to work with as heels. Gladiator sandals with ties that go around the ankle and up the leg are great for those wearing shorter dresses. Try to find white or skin coloured sandals as black is often too “heavy” for summer.

Bags For Days

Like sandals, any handbags or purses you carry should be bright and colourful, white or skin coloured. Black and darker colours are too deep and dark for summer, so accent the weather by dressing and carrying brightness! If you think about a garden party, colours and white are always an accent – you’d rarely see black at a garden party, depending on what you have access to in your wardrobe. So find yourself a great white or skin coloured bag to match your new sandals!

So if you’re heading out to any kind of a party or wedding this summer, consider some of the fashion tips above to help you stand out from the crowd.
