Key Benefits of Owning a Dog

August 31, 2017 by Lauren Palmer

So you have been thinking about getting a dog and the thought will just not leave your mind. Perhaps your best friend has a dog and she seems to be really happy with it, and you are thinking that you might love to have one yourself. The dog has really become a part of the family. In fact, they bought the dog one of the Jax and Bones dog beds and it is so cute watching their dog sleeping in style.

But you need to make sure that you really want the dog, because you will have to give up some things like some of your free time, and take on all of the responsibilities associated with owning a dog. So, you want to be clear about the most important benefits of having a dog. Here they are;

Dogs Provide Unconditional Love

How many times have you needed someone to provide love and comfort to you without you going through long explanations of why you are feeling down or lost? You just want a show of affection and support and understanding about your mood. This is a need that many of this feel at some times in our lives and yet finding someone to provide it can be difficult.

A dog can fulfill this need for you. Dogs are always there and never questions why you are sad or lonely, they only look to fulfill that emptiness you are felling. Scientists recognize that dogs play a great role in relieving depression and in bringing on happiness to their owners. The best part is that no matter how much you place on the animal they will never complain nor seek to place a similar amount on you. Usually a dog treat, hug or pat on the head will be payment enough.

Dogs are Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

Dogs promote good health in several ways for their owners:

Consistent Exercise: Walking a dog on a regular basis provides great exercise for their owners. The American Heart Association has set guidelines about the types of exercise we need daily and of walking is one of the approved exercises on their list. This exercise is also fun and easy to do because you are out in the open air, you can move at the speed you like and you are doing it with your best friend.

Stress Reduction: The benefits of having a dog extend to their helping you to lower your stress. One way is getting you on a healthy walk and exercise reduces stress. Also by getting out of the house and away from stress causing practices like your teenage kids, you can get energized and reset. Also dogs because of their role and position in the home are often look at as a distraction from stressful situation. Dogs will come and sit in your lap and literally force you to stop focusing on whatever is stressing you out and start focusing on them. This reset can completely relieve stress.
