Three Places Not to Miss in Macau

June 26, 2019 by Lauren Palmer

In the modern era, there are vast amounts of possibilities on offer when it comes to vacations, but with so many people seeking to break away from the traditional European locations, finding the right spot can prove problematic. However, Macau, a region which is located on the south coast of China, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for many.

With beach getaways not being everybody’s idea of a perfect vacation, Macau represents an ideal option for those who wish to get away and explore the opportunities that the region has to offer. While the city has a wide array of activities and landmarks available for visitors to explore, we will pick out some of the most popular and breath-taking destinations to visit in Macau.

Ruins of St. Paul’s

The Ruins of St. Paul’s is debatably the region’s most iconic landmark, with the ruins referring to the facade of what was originally the Church of Mater Dei. The 17th-century complex in Santo Antonio was constructed in 1603, with the common belief being that the incredible piece of architecture was designed by Carlo Spinola, before being sadly destroyed in 1835 by a typhoon. Following the typhoon, the original structure burned in a fire and all that remains as a result is the granite facade and the wonderful staircase which leads up to the landmark. The building itself is open to the public with the landmark regularly opening between the hours of 9am and 6pm. At the very heart of the city, the iconic ruins are a must-see when visiting Macau.

While the Ruins of St Paul’s offer an insightful view into the history of the region, the Venetian Macao casino is there to be enjoyed by those looking to participate in city life and enjoy the opportunities that are on offer. Within the Cotai Strip, the Venetian Macao stands tall in the region’s skyline. The destination itself is one of the finest hotels and casino resorts within the city and is hugely popular amongst visitors. The casino models its Las Vegas sister property and is themed on the romantic streets and canals of Venice. Inside the resort, the casino offers players the opportunity to enjoy and utilize over 6,000 slot machines and 800 traditional table games.  For many, poker is the biggest attraction when it comes to visiting a casino, and with so many tables available at the Venetian Macao, finding an area to participate should prove very simple. The same goes for baccarat. Moreover, with many of the table games requiring a minimum wager, experiencing one of the world’s greatest casino resorts is likely to be somewhat similar to what many are used to due to mobile betting. Following the rise in the popularity of mobile casinos in recent years, many such platforms offer rewards like free bets and no deposits, as Oddschecker points out. In reality, exploring the Venetian Macao and the requirements that go with it is unlikely to be an alien experience with it merely being a step up for many players.

The Macau Tower, which is located in Se Macau, is an incredible spot to visit while on vacation in the region. The tower stands at 338 meters high and offers for 360 degree viewing of the surrounding area. Aside from the views, the tower features various adventure activities such as bungee jumping, sky jumping, tower climbing, and more, while also featuring entertainment, dining and shopping facilities. An adult tower admission ticket, at the time of writing, costs approximately £16 and with children under the age of three able to get in for free, the tower represents a wonderful trip for parties of all sizes.

Macau Will Not Disappoint

Ultimately, Macau is packed with some absolutely incredible locations which offer a mixture of breathtaking views, entertainment and insightful history into the region. While the south coast of China has several destinations available to choose from, Macau is quickly becoming one of the most popular locations among those looking to broaden their horizons and enjoy some of the most spectacular sights that China has to offer.
