Everyone has that one place they always dream of going to for a holiday. For many it’s Australia or Canada, maybe America. For many others though, Canada tops their list of desired country to travel to and explore. Canada is a vast nation full of welcoming people from coast to coast to coast with a variety of things to do depending where you find yourself. From the east to the west to the very, very north, the things to do in Canada can vary greatly and depending on season. Sound intriguing? Try a holiday in Canada and see for yourself, but until then, here are just a couple of things you can expect to find on any trip you might take.
Gorgeous Scenery
It’s no secret that Canada is known for its stunning scenery. From coast to coast, the country is littered with dense forests, high mountain peaks, prairies that stretch for miles and even areas of Badlands. With the Great Lakes offering all the same watersports as coastal areas like boating and fishing, they’re one of the best places to get away to the cabin for a few days. The cities of Toronto and Montreal are popular places where many people begin their trips to Canada – especially from Europe as they’re large hubs and are great starting points to check out things like the historic St Lawrence River or Niagara Falls. Near to both is the capital, Ottawa, where you can explore the Canadian Parliament and learn about the history of the country, if you’re so inclined.
Crazy For Cultures
Depending which part you want to explore, you will come face to face with a great melting pot of interesting cultures. Across Canada you can expect to find a huge love of different international cuisines, but especially Chinese and Ukrainian meals. In Quebec, you will find everything has a very poignant and heavy French influence while in the Maritimes everything is notedly British and Irish. Throughout the country you will be able to find a whole mix of different experiences from around the world, making Canada an inclusive and wonderful place to visit.
Delicious Food (And Other Delights)
Canadian food may sound like a strange thing to say, but they do have things that are decidedly considered Canadian! One such dish is known as ‘Poutine’, a combination of french fries, cheese curds and gravy all mixed together on top of one another. Sounds disgusting but definitely isn’t. Find the best poutine in Quebec, its province of origin. For a taste of the dishes of the First Nations peoples, try bannock – a bread, or pemmican – dried buffalo meat with berries rubbed into it. But don’t stop there! Canada has a booming craft beer industry, and did you know they have a vast – but rather secretive – wine industry? That’s right! Canada has a whole wine culture of cultivating and producing wines in the likes of Ontario and BC but they don’t typically export it, so hardly anyone knows!
So if you’re looking for something a bit different with a lot of potential for things to see and do, consider Canada. From coast to coast it’s sure to please even the most discerning of travellers.
